Preoperative instructions
For Patients Undergoing Sedation or General Anesthesia:
1. Do not eat or drink anything at least 8 (eight) hours prior to your appointment unless medications are prescribed. Take any required medications with only a small sip of water. If an oral rinse was prescribed for you, begin using it as instructed.
2. Wear loose comfortable clothing with sleeves that can be easily rolled up. If you do not like cool temperatures, you may consider dressing warmly as our operating suites are intentionally kept cool.
3. Wear flat heeled shoes. Strapless shoes are discouraged.
4. Remove contact lenses. If you have glasses, wear them instead.
5. Do not wear any facial cosmetics, perfume, cologne, fingernail polish or acrylic fingernails, and minimal jewelry.
6. Brush your teeth and/or clean your mouth before you leave home.
7. Visit the bathroom prior to your appointment.
8. A responsible person capable of driving you home must accompany you, and remain in the reception area during surgery. A responsible person must remain with you during the day surgery is performed until the effects of the sedation have diminished.
9. If you develop a cold or any significant changes in your health prior to your surgery, please notify our office, as it may be necessary to reschedule your surgery appointment.
10. Try to get a good night’s rest prior to your appointment.
